(countable) Decomposition into components in order to study (a complex thing, concept, theory etc.). / (countable) The result of such a process.

A psychotherapeutic system involving analysis of relationships and interactions in terms of ego states that correspond to the roles of parent (critical and nurturing), adult (rational), and child (intuitive and dependent).

(economics) A theory that attempts to explain the discrepancy in the value of goods and services by reference to their secondary, or marginal, utility.

(linguistics) Any valid analysis of a word's morphology regardless of whether it represents its etymology in the strict sense of that word (that is, the historical origin); for example, the word biology has a surface analysis of bio- + -logy although it was not coined as the combination of those combining forms (in fact predating them). The word can validly be viewed as an example of words ending in the suffix -ology even though it was not coined as one (whereas many analogous but newer words were thus coined, such as immunology).

(computing) A part of computerised stock control that identifies the minimum stock needed to avoid shortage / The analysis of a medical study in order to allocate costs

(chemistry, metallurgy) Any of several analytical techniques that monitor the chemical and physical changes that occur as a material is heated.

(linguistics) The process of relating syntactic structures, from the levels of phrases, clauses, sentences and paragraphs to the level of the writing as a whole, to their language-independent meanings, removing features specific to particular linguistic and cultural contexts, to the extent that such a project is possible.
