It is safe to say that there is not one of our multimillionaires who could not be a peer, or at least a baronet, if he were an Englishman; and it is really a great hardship, and enough to make a multimillionaire hate and despise his native land, that he can be nothing of the kind in America. In the case of our multimillionairesses it is not quite so bad, for they can easily buy titled husbands; but even if their brothers bought titled wives, they could not share their titles, and become dukes and lords as the multimillionairesses become duchesses and countesses.
