(law) The advantage, allowed to a mortgager, of a certain or reasonable time to redeem lands mortgaged, after they have been forfeited at law by the non-payment of the sum of money due on the mortgage at the appointed time.

法的に、抵当権が行使され、一定または合理的な期間内に、担保権者（借主）が不動産を再取得できる有利な権利。つまり、抵当権が実行される前に、債務不履行による法的没収に対抗して、設定された一定期間内に元の状態に戻す権利。

This reasonable advantage, allowed to mortgagors, is called the equity of redemption : and this enables a mortgagor to call on the mortgagee , who has possession of his estate , to deliver it back and account for the rents and profits received
