Khanbaliq

Peking consists essentially of two walled cities, the northern Inner city and the southern Outer city. The Inner city, also known as the Tatar city, lies approximately on the site of Khanbaliq of the Mongol dynasty. It is in the form of a square with walls nearly 15 mi. in length.
