Although surgery for scaphoid nonunions has a high success rate with favorable long-term results, especially in younger patients where delay between injury and surgery is moderate [ 19 ], complications of surgery may be more common than is generally reported [ 20 ]; therefore, some patients prefer to avoid surgery and seek conservative treatment options.
