Trials with three experimental dual-frequency mixed-traffic locomotives intended for use on the Saar's 15kV 16⅔-cycle (German) and 25kV 50-cycle (French) lines have proved so successful that the German Federal Railway is contemplating the construction of a fleet of 20 to 25 similar machines.
