Nash equilibrium

(game theory) The set of choices of players' strategies for which no player can benefit by changing his or her strategy assuming that the other players keep theirs unchanged.

In the auction model, the Nash equilibrium emerges when each bidder chooses a strategy such that no one can improve their payoff by deviating unilaterally.
