trap-bath split
(linguistics) a vowel split in some varieties of English (such as British English as spoken in southern England, American English spoken in Boston, and Australian, New Zealand and South African English) in which the phoneme /æ/, as pronounced in other varieties of English, is pronounced in some words as /ɑː/.
英語の一部の方言（英国南部、ボストン、オーストラリア、ニュージーランド、南アフリカなど）において、一部の単語で母音/æ/が/ɑː/として発音される現象。特に『trap』と『bath』の単語に見られるため、この現象を『trap-bath split』と呼ぶ。
