Powdered dashi (like Hondashi) makes an instant broth but sacrifices some flavor. Tea bag-style dashi kits are a better quick choice. They pack katsuobushi, kombu and often other ingredients, like dried baby sardines (niboshi) and shiitake mushrooms, into a steepable bag.
