The kowari (Dasyuroides byrnei) might pass for a kangaroo rat, except for being about half the size, and the pygmy planigale (Planigale maculata) looks very much like a house mouse (Mus musculus), but smaller.
I will, probably with naive optimism, take this as a sign that the capeshit era is ending, and that this stuff will go back to being kids-only where it belongs.
