From January 2, writes L. J. Jennings, diesel multiple-units took over completely the local service between Leicester, Hinckley, Nuneaton and Birmingham, except for the 3.10 a.m. Nuneaton Trent Valley-Leicester London Road and the 9.18 p.m. in the reverse direction, which remain steam-hauled.
