Alternative form of Zhijiang
(phonology) A Proto-Indo-European phonological rule that governs the word-final sequences of a vowel, followed firstly by a semivowel or a laryngeal and then by a nasal. Such sequences are simplified so that laryngeals and semivowels are dropped, with compensatory lengthening of a preceding vowel.
語末で母音の後に半母音または喉頭音が続きさらに鼻音が続く配列を簡略化し、半母音や喉頭音を脱落させて前の母音を補償的に長くするという原始インド・ヨーロッパ語の音韻規則は、なぜ多くの語形で母音の長化が見られるのかを説明する。
