商取引において、支払った金額に比例して得られる商品の品質やサービスの水準が決まるという意味。つまり、高い料金を支払えばより高品質な商品やサービスが手に入るという考え方を示す諺です。

高い方を買うのを迷っていましたが、安い方を買ったら数週間で壊れてしまい、結局払った分だけの品質しか得られないことを痛感しました。
