Whilst schistosome glycolipids are based on the unique schisto-series structure GalNAc(β4GlclCer, the glycosphingolipids of Fasciola spp. were found to belong to the globo-series structure of vertebrates, i. e., Galα-4Galβ4GlclCer.
The labium is prolonged centrally into a “tongue,” which is glandular at the tip; the paraglossae are linear.
