The purpose of physical alchemy—as opposed to its various spiritual pursuits—was to treat the leprosity of base metals such as lead, refining and purifying them into gold.

Skew and crest: this phrase, which occurs in the specifications for the repairs at the Tower of London, (23 H. VIII.,) plainly describes the common coping of a wall which consists of a sloping or skew surface surmounted by a roll moulding by way of crest; sometimes there are two skews, separated by a set-off.

The accusative case canonically indicates a direct object.  Latin has six cases, and remnants of a seventh.

If the abatement happened on the death of one's grandfather or grandmother, then an assise of mort d' ancestor no longer lies, bur a writ of ayle or de avo; if on the death of the great grandfather or great grandmother, then a writ of besayle or de proavo; but if it mounts one degree higher, to the trefayle or grandfather's grandfather, or if the abatement happened upon the death of any collateral relation, other than those before-mentioned, the writ is called a writ of cosinage, or de consanguineo.
