疑問文の形成に用いられる接尾辞で、問いとなる部分に付加して質問の意味（英語での do を用いた疑問文、語順の倒置、抑揚などに相当）を加える。 / 間接疑問文において、動詞に付加されると英語の “if” や “whether” に相当する働きをする。 / -han／-hän 等と組み合わせると、「〜かな」というような推量や疑問のニュアンスを表す。 / 否定動詞とともに使われた場合、疑問というよりは「そうであろうか」という推量の意味が強まる。 / 疑問詞を含む質問においても用いられることがある。

英語の意味

(enclitic) Turns a clause interrogative. It is appended to the element of the clause that is questioned most. English equivalents include the normal ways of forming an interrogative statement without using an interrogative pronoun, such as the verb "do", inversion of the word order and intonation. / (enclitic) In indirect questions, -ko/-kö appended to the verb corresponds to the conjunctions if and whether in English. / (enclitic) With the particle -han/-hän attached to the topic of discussion, it expresses "I wonder if". / (enclitic) With the negative verb (en, et, ei, emme, ette, eivät) and the particle -han/-hän, expresses "I suppose". / (enclitic, colloquial) In a question with an interrogative word.

Suomen kielessä kysymyksiä muodostetaan usein lisäämällä liite -ko verbin vartaloon.
