文法において、ある文字列が左側（先頭）に自身を含む形で、別の文字列と接尾辞に分解される規則・現象を指す。 / 左再帰と呼ばれ、ある言語の文法が、文字列を他の文字列と追加の部分に分解可能な場合の現象を意味する。

左再帰は、文字列が別の文字列と接尾辞に分解できる場合に発生し、単純な再帰的構文解析器を無限ループに陥らせることがある。
