額銘(がくめい)とは、「額」に記された銘文や題字のこと。掛け軸や絵画、看板などの上部に掲げられた額縁部分に書かれた文字を指す。 / 刀剣用語としては一般的ではないが、質問文の英語説明から、短くなった刀身から元の銘が記された部分を切り取り、新たな茎(なかご)に埋め込んだ矩形の金属片、またはその銘を指す可能性がある。
