Japanese Meaning
軍隊における将校の階級の一つで、尉官の中で最も下位の階級。現代日本の自衛隊では三等陸佐・三等海佐・三等空佐より下位の、幹部自衛官の初級階級に相当する。英語の “second lieutenant” または “ensign” にあたる。 / 律令制下の官制で、兵衛府・衛門府などに置かれた判官（じょう）のうち、第三等級に当たる下位の判官。上位には大尉・中尉などが置かれ、兵部省や宮城の警備・護衛などを分掌した。
