The hotwater physa is a highly localized freshwater snail, known only from a handful of hot springs in northern British Columbia, Canada.

After the volcanic eruption, the hotwater physae were among the first to recolonize the newly formed pools.

Biologists studying the geothermal pools found that hotwater physas thrive where other snails cannot survive.
