はい・いいえで答える質問を導く疑問詞の前につく語で，後続の語と結合して書かれる。とくに定冠詞al-が後続するとき，綴りが変化してマッダ記号(آ)で表される。
English Meaning
A form of the initial interrogative particle that indicates a yes-or-no question. As it is written together with the following word, when this word begins with ال (al-, “the”) they are orthographically morphed together and written with a مَدَّة (madda) diacritic instead of maintaining both.
