The ancient or older language of Tagalog mostly spoken and sparsely written in the Philippines from about 900 C.E. to 1521 C.E., when it soon developed into Classical Tagalog after Christianization by the Spanish arrival. It developed from Proto-Philippine, with heavy influence from Classical Sanskrit, Old Malay, Middle Tamil and Late Middle Chinese (either Hokkien or Cantonese) and was written using the Baybayin script.
