Semirigids were less expensive to build than rigids, and could be laid flat when deflated, making them much more convenient to store or transport long distances, while a semirigid's internal structural reinforcement allowed it to be built larger than a nonrigid and to fly faster without buckling or telescoping.

The crystal structure refinement indicates vanadiocarpholite to be isotypic with carpholite, therefore it belongs to the carpholite group together with carpholite, magnesiocarpholite, ferrocarpholite, balipholite and potassic-carpholite.

Now if this view be admitted, we cannot urge any very forcible objection to the specifications made, unless it be that in some of the functions enumerated, the same apparatus is made to subserve different purposes, as for instance the nerves, that of sensation and innervation, and the respiratory, assimilative, and secretory apparatûs, the functions which appertain to them properly, and also that of calorification.
