DeSantis is surely not the first elected official who told friends from his youth he would be president one day — the son of a Nielsen-rating box installer and a nurse outside Tampa, imagining a path to high prominence through politics. But he might be the only Gen X-er who paired such ambitions with impressions of a disgraced forebear.
