With the sole exception of North Africa, the fighting in the European theater did not spread beyond the geographical confines of Europe. But Britain in Palestine and Egypt, France in Syria, Lebanon and Algeria, and Italy in Tripoli all held territorial possessions in the Levant or in super-Saharan Africa, and the conflict between the Western Allies and the Axis eventually spilled over to all points from Morocco to the Nile.
