To elucidate patterns at the regional scale that may be obscured by our coastwide analysis, we divided the coastline into three biogeographic regions, north of Cape Mendocino, CA (North), between Cape Mendocino and Point Conception, CA (Central), and south of Point Conception (South; Fig 1).
