The Chinese revolution reached its climax in 1926. In 1927 dissensions started between the radicals and the moderates, within the Kuomingtang. The moderates grew weary of Moscow control. General Chiang-Kai-shek took control over Canton in April, 1927. By this time the Soviet embassy in Peking had been raided by the Chinese police and a number of documents had been seized, proving close connection between Moscow and the Left Wing of the Kuomingtang. The documents were published and produced considerable impression in Chinese nationalistic circles. The radicals of the Kuomingtang attempted to form their own government in Wuhan, but failed, and Borodin was obliged to leave China
