If you have a copy of the 1952 BTF film Train Time, you can see a Mr Calloway proposing a retimed freight train. Each individual facet of its schedule is pored over and the schedule is only accepted once it has been 'graphed' and deemed 'conflict-free'.

Holland also did many of his own stunts, including his entry flip. Apparently the studio didn't want the 19-year-old to perform the flip, but the directing duo told him to go for it and he stuck the landing.
