Specifically, the chapter examines the role of drug users in the Brazilian epidemic, the current state of prevention and treatment initiatives targetted to this population, and the nature of HIV testing available to drug users, especially oral HIV testing, and presents suggestive findings from a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)-funded multimethod study of mismessaging in oral HIV testing among drug users in Rio de Janeiro that have direct implications for HIV prevention in Brazil.
