（歴史的な用法）家賃に租税（rates）が組み込まれている形態の家主。すなわち、借家人が家賃として租税を支払うが、実際には租税の負担は大家に直接課せられる制度における家主を指す。

家賃に地方税を含めて支払う世帯主は、家主がそれらの税に直接責任を負っていたため、そうすることを主張した。
