アスター科に属する花を咲かせる植物。学名はオンポルダム・アカンティウムで、一般的には「スコッチ・アザミ」とも呼ばれる。

A lone Scotch thistle stood defiantly on the windswept cliff, its purple flowerheads nodding in the gale.
