テリン：テルイナ属に分類される、海洋に生息する両弁貝。砂中に潜り込み、砂を通して堆積有機物（デトリタス）をろ過摂取する生物。

潮間帯を歩いていると、表面のすぐ下に砂に潜るテリナ属の二枚貝を見つけ、その虹管が砂中の有機物の破片を吸い込むのを観察した。
