「cloister（クローイスター）」は、修道院や修道院の敷地内にある回廊、すなわち僧侶や修道士が生活する中で用いられる覆いのある通路や中庭を指す。また、この語はそのような修道院そのものや、隠遁的な空間を意味する場合もあります。なお、「cloyster」は「cloister」の古い綴りです。
