It is the opinion of Snoswell and co-workers that the balance between hepatic production of acetate and ketone bodies may be determined by the availability of carnitine, increased concentrations of this compound leading to decreased ketogenesis and increased acetogenesis (A. M. Snoswell, personal communication).
